Browse deals →Historically, Smart Replies offered a selection of short, pre-written phrases based on the context of the conversation. While convenient for quick acknowledgments, these often felt generic or didn't quite capture the user's intended sentiment, forcing them to either pick a close-enough option or abandon the Smart Reply altogether to type a full, original message. This interruption in workflow could detract from the seamless communication experience Google aims to provide.
With 'Tap to Draft,' users can now select a Smart Reply and have it immediately populate the message input field. From there, they are free to edit, expand, or refine the AI's suggestion before sending. This hybrid approach combines the speed of AI-assisted responses with the control and personalization of manual typing, offering the best of both worlds. It empowers users to leverage AI for initial ideas while retaining full creative command over their outgoing messages, ultimately saving time and fostering more natural interactions within Google Messages.
