HBO has officially confirmed its long-awaited Harry Potter television reboot, a faithful, book-accurate adaptation of all seven J.K. Rowling novels that will unfold over roughly a decade on HBO and HBO Max.
Release window: The series is currently targeting an early 2027 premiere, with principal photography already underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK — the same lot where the original films were shot.
Cast: Dominic McLaughlin has been cast as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adult cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.

Creative team: Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials) serves as showrunner and writer, with Mark Mylod (Succession, The Menu) directing multiple episodes. J.K. Rowling is on board as an executive producer.
What to expect: HBO has promised a darker, more textured Wizarding World, leaning into the slow-burn storytelling that made Game of Thrones and Succession appointment television. Expect higher creature-effects fidelity, expanded Hogwarts house dynamics, and storylines that follow the cast as they physically age across a decade-long production.
