Despite Meta's recent efforts to secure Instagram accounts against hacking attempts, a concerning trend continues: numerous users are still reporting their accounts being compromised. Hackers involved in these activities assert that Meta's supposed 'fix' was merely a superficial change, involving the removal of a user interface button that previously facilitated access. Crucially, they claim that the underlying API endpoints for Meta AI remain broadly accessible, creating a persistent backdoor for unauthorized access.
This situation suggests a deeper security flaw than initially acknowledged by Meta. If the API endpoints are indeed exposed, bad actors can bypass the regular user interface and directly interact with the system, potentially to gain control over Instagram accounts. Such a vulnerability is highly problematic, especially given Instagram's role as a primary communication and business platform for millions worldwide. Users remain at risk, and the community is urgently calling for a more robust and comprehensive security overhaul from Meta. The current revelations underscore how critical backend security measures are, and that cosmetic front-end changes often do not address fundamental weaknesses, leaving user data and privacy in jeopardy.
